Independent sore over dragging debate during question time

: The lone Independent V M C Sivakumar, who supports the Rangasamy led AINRC government from the outside today expressed disappointment over the House routinely not being able to take up all questions for debate during the one hour question answer session every day.

He said he had noticed that dragging of debate on questions was eating into the time available to deal with the entire list of questions and requested Speaker V Sabapathy to ensure that proceedings are under his control and that all the questions listed for the day's session are taken up.

"We would not be able to air the grievances of our constituencies in case our questions cannot be taken up on the ground of lapse of the one hour time frame', Sivakumar, a former Speaker, said.
 

He also urged the CM to hold talks with the Prime Minister in person and seek his intervention to protect fishermen from Karaikal who often face hardships at the hands of Sri Lanka navy while fishing.

Sivakumar referred to recent instance of four fishermen, including an 18 year old boy from Karaikal, who were arrested and subsequently jailed by the Sri Lankan naval authorities.

The Chief Minister heard the member's representation but did not give a reply.

Opposition AIADMK deputy legislature party leader A Anbalagan alleged that a girl student who had completed her 10th standard in Dindigul and higher secondary course here,was admitted to a professional college here under government quota on the basis of a certificate of residence, though she could not come under the category of resident of Puducherry.

Though a minium of three years residence is needed to get the certificate, revenue authorities here had issued it to her he said and demanded that government conduct an enquiry and take action against the revenue department officer who had issued the certificate.

CM assured him that a probe would be conducted and action taken against those involved.
