Asian champion shot putter Inderjit Singh will spearhead a 24-member Indian team's challenge in the three-leg Asian Athletics Grand Prix Series which begins on June 22 in Bangkok.
The team comprises 11 women and 13 men and they will leave for Thailand for the prize-money series tomorrow.
Besides Inderjit, who earlier this month won a gold in the Asian Athletics Championships in Wuhan (China), other prominent athletes include quartermiler M R Poovamma, silver winner in the recent continental event, and sprinter Srabani Nanda who had won a bronze.
The second and third legs of the series will be held on June 25 and June 29 at Pathumthani and Chanthaburi (both in Thailand).
The gold medallist of an individual event will get USD 1500 while the silver and bronze winners will pocket USD 800 and USD 500 respectively.
According to the organisers, all accepted/nominated athletes are required to participate in all three legs to be eligible for the prize money. There will be no prize money for the relay events.
The events to be competed among men are: 100m, 400m, 800m, 110m hurdles, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay on track and long jump, high jump, shot put, javelin throw on field.
Among women, the events to be competed are: 100m, 400m, 800m, 100m hurdles, 4x100m relay, 4x400m relay on track and triple jump, high jump, discus throw, shot put on field.
