India and Africa will cooperate to increase agricultural output so as to halve the number of people suffering from hunger and malnutrition by 2015, Minister of State for External Affairs Preneet Kaur said today.

"...We have jointly emphasised on harnessing the latest scientific research for raising productivity and for the conservation of land and environment in order to ensure food security for our people and to bring down the rising cost of food items so as to make food affordable for all," Kaur said in a statement.

She was speaking at the Valedictory Session at the Asia-Africa AgriBusiness Forum 2014 organised by FICCI in association with the Ministries of Agriculture and Food Processing Industry.

Agriculture Secretary Ashish Bahuguna said Africa should take advantage of India's expertise on use of technology in agriculture.
