Close on the heels of handing over of ULFA leader Anup Chetia, India and Bangladesh have agreed to expedite the process of handing over of other wanted persons in either country.
The issue was discussed during the 17th Home Secretary level talks between the two countries held on November 16-17 in Dhaka. The Joint Working Group (JWG) between the two countries also met to discuss the security and border management-related issues.
During the meeting between Union Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and Senior Secretary, Bangladesh Home Ministry, Mozammel Haque Khan, highlighted the importance they attach to the relations between the two countries and reiterated their desire to further expand mutual cooperation.

A statement from MHA said Bangladesh side assured full cooperation to address India's security concerns and reiterated that Bangladesh will not allow its soil to be used against the interest any country including India.
"Both sides agreed to further expedite the process of handing over of other wanted criminals in either country," the spokesperson said here today.
The two countries reiterated that immediate action would be taken on the basis of real-time and actionable information on smuggling of Fake Indian Currency Notes (FICN), drugs and arms and ammunitions.
Countering trafficking of women and children, mechanisms to further hasten the process of verification of nationality, status of prisoners lodged in jails of either country and implementation of agreement on Transfer of Sentenced Persons (TSP) were also discussed in the meeting.
Both the countries expressed satisfaction over the implementation of Land Boundary Agreement and also called for regular meetings of District Magistrates of the districts to to resolve local issues.
