Pledging to work together for women empowerment, India, Brazil and South Africa today signed the fifth India Brazil South Africa (IBSA) Women's Forum Resolution here.

While WCD Minister Krishna Tirath signed the resolution for India, Lulama Xingwana, South African Minister for Women, Children and People with Disabilities and Maria do Carmo Godinho Delgado, Secretary of Evaluation of Policies and Economic Autonomy of Women of Brazil were the other co-signatories.

The joint resolution stated that the three countries are committed to recognising the key role of government with the support of civil society to ensure and accelerate all efforts towards achieving gender equality and women empowerment.

The resolution recommended ending violence against women and girls, to work towards economic empowerment of women, to promote gender responsive budgeting, and equitable and sustainable development.

At the signing of the resolution, Tirath said the three countries of the southern continent have a shared legacy of struggle for peace and democracy to which women have contributed immensely.

The WCD minister mentioned the 'Stop Rape Campaign' in South Africa for its intrinsic value in gender sensitising school children. Social programs such as Bolsa Familia (Brazil) also came in for praise.
