The US today said India can play a leadership role in upholding the global order and advancing peace and stability in the world.

"Few nations have as much to contribute in upholding our global order as India ... A thriving, multicultural democracy that is deeply vested in upholding a rule-based order, as a military power focused on advancing peace and stability, and as an economic powerhouse that relies on inclusive, sustainable growth," US Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken said here at a function.

He said as India and the US work together to defend their common principles and update global institutions, America look to India's ingenuity, energy, and leadership in the Indo-Pacific region and around the world.

"Together, we will fulfil our responsibility to this and future generations to look over the horizon-alert vulnerabilities but also awake to the opportunities," he added.

He said the challenge today is to adapt the global order to suit this new century.

He added that over the past 25 years, India has moved towards integration into the global economy while lifting millions out of poverty, sharing its expertise with other developing countries, and reinforcing its strategic standing in the world.
