Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today said that India is fully committed to the 2015 Bordeaux Manifesto Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) addressing climate change at the World Congress attended by Ministers of 30 countries in France.

The manifesto was introduced by French Transport Minister Alain Vidalies.

The vice-president of Bordeaux Metropoly later gave a presentation to the delegates on their efforts to create Intelligent Transport System within the city, said a release.

The delegates were taken to a tour and were showcased convergence of different transport systems such as tram services, motor vehicle transport services, pedestrian pathways, cycling tracks and water ways in the adjacent Garonne river.

Naidu appreciated the convergence of different transport systems and said this model may be replicated in India wherever applicable.

Currently CO2 emissions in the transport sector account for about 23 per cent of the total man-made CO2 emissions worldwide within a growing trend. There is a strong need to find and deploy actions that will reduce transport CO2 emissions while fulfilling growing mobility needs.

Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) is the transport part of the information age, it provides the framework to design, deploy and coordinate the efficient solutions that people need.
