Aircraft carriers answer India's security needs and assessment, the government today said in response to an article in a State-run Chinese daily which argued that New Delhi should focus less on speeding up the process of building such carriers.
External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Gopal Baglay made the remarks while responding to the article in the Global Times which said, "New Delhi should perhaps be less eager to speed up the process of building aircraft carriers in order to counter China's growing sway in the Indian Ocean, and focus more on its economy."
Baglay, while responding to a question on the article, said, "They (aircraft carriers) answer our security needs and assessment and are in line with India as a responsible naval and maritime power.
