India dominates under-12 chess

India won 3 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze medals in Asian Youth Chess Championship which concluded in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, today.

India won both the gold Medals in under 12 section with top seed Pragganananda overcoming stiff resistance from compatriot Raunak Sadhwani. In the girls section, Divya Deshmukh, who had earlier won gold and silver in Blitz and Rapid Championships respectively, completed the formalities by drawing her last round game and taking her tally to eight points.

The other Indian to win gold is Anwesha Mishra, who was seeded 5th in the starting rank but caused a major upset by winning the event with one round to spare.
 

Rajdeep Sarkar missed medal by a whisker when he lost the final match to Erenpurev Boldoo to finish 4th in the under 18 category. Chandreyee Hazra finished 5th in the under 18 girls section by drawing her last round encounter against Nguyen Than Thuy Thien of Vietnam.

Mitrabha Guha upset the top seed Tsogbayar of Mongolia but had to contend with 7th position on lower tie break.
