India, Germany to hold talks on Eurozone crisis, Afghanistan

"German Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle and his Indian counterpart S M Krishna will meet in Bangalore and have wide- ranging talks on pressing regional and global issues. These include recent developments in the Eurozone, the evolving situation in Afghanistan and India's strategic role in Asia's security architecture," German Embassy said here today.

The talks between the two ministers will also focus on enhancing bilateral trade, strengthening cooperation in the fields of green technologies, environmental protection, as well as higher education, IT sector and recently-launched Blue Card scheme of the German government.

Germany is an important trade partner of India in Europe with bilateral trade almost doubling from Euro 10 billion in 2006 and is expected to cross Euro 20 billion in 2012.

 

Krishna and Westerwelle are also expected to discuss the progress in the UN reforms and step up the G4 initiative that seeks permanent seats for India, Germany, Japan and Brazil in a reformed UN Security Council.

Here on his third visit, Westerwelle is accompanied by a 50-member high-ranking delegation, consisting of leading German company heads and mediapersons.

Westerwelle, along with the Chief Minister of Karnataka, will also inaugurate the Indo-German Urban Mela, the centerpiece of the "Year of Germany and India 2011-2012: Infinite Opportunities" tomorrow showcasing 16 specially- designed pavilions presenting a series of interactive presentations urban life improvements.

The German Foreign Minister will also open the new visa facilities at the German Consulate in Bangalore and deliver the Founder
