India in touch with Russia over ISKCON temple eviction notice

"It is being followed by our mission actively", official spokesperson in the Ministry of External Affairs said, adding that they were in constant touch with the local authorities there.

According to reports, the local authorities have issued a notice to the only Hindu temple in Moscow, giving a deadline of January 15 for eviction.

Last year, the prosecutors in the Siberian city of Tomsk had filed a petition seeking a ban on the Russian translation of "Bhagvad Gita As It Is" on the ground that it promotes "social discord" and hatred towards non-believers, an issue which caused anger among believers around the world and forced New Delhi to take up the matter with Moscow.

 

However, the Siberian court had thrown out the petition.
