"India is really inspiring the rest of the globe in rising. We are getting so many sign ups since the December 16 incident and the protests. They are saying if India can do it, so can we. India now is really the vanguard. And I believe we are going to see a massive rising in India with regards to violence against women issue," Eve told PTI.
She addressed a press conference here for her One Billion Rising (OBR) campaign and said after the brutal incident, the "good men around" have also realised that they need to stand with women to fight for the issue because it is not only a women's issue.
"I think one of the great things that are happening now that we are seeing a society that is very energized, very angry and now is the time of intervention and I strongly suggest that if you see anybody touching any woman anywhere you should scream and that it should ignite other man or women to scream. You intervene on her behalf and stand up for her and risk being a social outcast," she said.
Eve has been in India for sometime now to launch her OBR movement to end violence against women. She has performed the popular "Vagina Monologues" in Mumbai along with three guest actors from Bollywood.
She is also scheduled to perform the play in Delhi on January 7 with the cast, which includes Varshaa Agnihotri, Rasika Duggal, Dilnaz Irani, Dolly Thakore and Mahabanoo Mody Kotwal, who along with her son Kaizaad Kotwal has been directing it in the country for the last 10 years.
"It was not a coincidence or very well planed time to launch the campaign here. It was just a connection that I am here for such a cause at this particular time. I am so excited to be here as India is on the seat of rising against violence against women," she said. (MORE)
