Lashing out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and RSS for "pursuing divisive politics", TMC leader Firhad Hakim today accused the BJP of playing communal politics in order to "reap" political dividends.

"The BJP, RSS and Modi should not think that India belongs only to them and their stooges. India belongs to everybody. We are all Indians irrespective of our caste creed and religion," he said.

The TMC organised a unity rally in Kolkata to condemn the demolition of Babri Masjid two decades back.

"The BJP and RSS agenda is to divide the nation on communal lines. Their agenda is to pit one against another. We have to stand united and fight unitedly against these politics," he said.

TMC secretary-general Partha Chatterjee said it was need of the hour to stand up and protest unitedly against the central government which, he alleged, had come to power through playing communal politics.
