India and Japan today held talks on a range of issues with an aim to further enhancing their engagement in diverse sectors including trade and investment.
External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid and his Japanese counterpart Fumio Kishida met on the margins of the Asia-Europe Foreign Ministers' meeting here on the outskirts of Delhi and deliberated on various issues of mutual interest.
The meeting focused on forthcoming visit of Japan's Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko to India, sources said.
Both the Ministers also discussed various bilateral isues and matters related to enhance economic engagement between the two countries, they said.
Kishida, who is a native of Hiroshima, was very appreciative of Indian Parliament observing a minute's silence every year in memory of the victims of Hiroshima atomic bombing, sources said.
The two ministers also discussed possibilities of cooperation between the two countries in international fora including the UN on matters of common interest.
It was Kishida's first visit to India.
