"No compromise can be made on the issue of nation's security and integrity of the country and strict vigil and checking should be ensured to check hawala like trade through cross-LoC routes," Singh, who visited Chakan-da-Bagh cross border trade point ahead of his scheduled visit to Pakistan for talks next week, said.
Accompanied by Commissioner Secretary Home B R Sharma, Director General of State Police Kuldeep Khoda and representatives of traders' fraternity, the Union Home Secretary took stock of the facilities.
"Keeping in view the increased demands of traders from across the border, the government would consider increasing the quantum of traded items in near future," he said, adding in this regard the necessary infrastructure has been already created.
"Efforts are afoot with the Government of Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir and it would depend upon the outcome of these efforts," Singh said.
Responding to demands put forth by traders, the Union Home Secretary said that all their genuine demands would be taken up with Pakistan Government for early redressal.
He said registration of traders, transporters and drivers being deployed for cross border trade is made on regular basis. He said enhancement of trade items and increase in number of trucks was also under consideration of the government.
Singh said matters like provision of bank facility and issue of multiple visa facility in favour of traders would also be taken up with the Pakistan Government. MORE
