India, Malaysia discuss ties

India and Malaysia have discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in a range of areas, including defence, health and education.

Both sides deliberated on issues of mutual interest when Secretary (East) in External Affairs Ministry, Anil Wadhwa, met Deputy Foreign Minister of Malaysia, Dato Hamzah Zainudin, in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

In the meeting, Zainudin conveyed Malaysia's willingness to further expand the "scope and depth" of India-Malaysia bilateral relations, the External Affairs Ministry said here.

"They had an opportunity to review some important aspects of our relations, including the forthcoming Joint Commission Meeting, political and defence relations, health and education, etc.," it said in a release.
 

Wadhwa also addressed a gathering of the CEOs of major Malaysian companies, members of think-tanks and senior officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and exchanged views on a range of issues of mutual interest.
