Moderate Hurriyat Conference headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today asked India and Pakistan to take people of Kashmir into confidence and start a dialogue for an honourable resolution of Kashmir issue.

"India and Pakistan should take people of Kashmir into confidence and start a result-oriented dialogue for unbiased and honourable solution to Kashmir issue," Hurriyat said in a statement after a joint meeting of its Executive and General councils, chaired by Mirwaiz at his Nigeen residence, here.

Terming the animosity between India and Pakistan as a lurking threat to peace and prosperity of the region, the Hurriyat said resolution of all outstanding issues especially Kashmir was imperative to end the prevailing uncertainty.

"Any confrontation between the two Nuclear-armed neighbours can be devastating for the region," it said and stressed for measures to make the atmosphere conducive for dialogue.

"Creation of conducive atmosphere for meaningful dialogue (between India and Pakistan) is need of the hour," the Hurriyat said.

The Hurriyat also launched a scathing attack on the PDP-led coalition government in the state saying all its promises for the rehabilitation of 2014 flood victims have proved to be a "jugglery of statistics and slogans."

"The claims of so called government regarding relief and rehabilitation of last year's flood victims have proven to be only a jugglery of statistics and slogans. The government has completely failed till date to formulate a proper strategy to deal with the economic crisis which has surfaced in Kashmir in the aftermath of deadly floods," it said.

The Hurriyat said "such callousness on part of the ruling regime was highly deplorable and aptly displays the inimical attitude of the rulers towards the people.
