India today handed over 200 scholarships to Nepalese students for various courses under a bilateral scheme to boost human resource development in the country.
Nepal's Vice President Parmananda Jha and Indian Ambassador to Nepal Ranjit Rae jointly handed over the certificates to the 13th batch of the Golden Jubilee Scholarship recipients at a function organised here, according to an Indian embassy statement.
The scholarships are provided for a wide spectrum of studies ranging from engineering, medicine, agriculture, pharmacology, veterinary sciences, computer application, business administration, music and fine arts.
The number of students receiving the scholarship has been increased to 200 from 100 since 2012, it said.
The amount of scholarship per student for MBBS and BE has been increased from Rs 3,000 to Rs 4,000, while for BSc, BBA, BBS and BCOM has been increased to Rs 3,000 from Rs 2,000.
The Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme was launched by the Indian government in 2002 to commemorate the 50th year of Economic Cooperation between India and Nepal.
India's contribution to the development of human resources in Nepal has been one of the major aspects of India-Nepal cooperation, the statement said.
