Inaugurating the Rs 2 crore Madina mosque in Meghalaya's capital, Union Minister of State for Minority Affairs Vincent H Pala regretted the tendency by police in some instances where Muslims are targeted during investigation of crimes.
The Union Law Minister Salman Khurshid, who was to have come for the inauguration, could not attend as he was required to be present for a meeting of the Empowered Group of Ministers in Delhi, Pala said..
Pala asked the caretakers of the 120-feet tall glass mosque to maintain its unique identity.
"The mosque will mark the unity of all religion," said Pala even as he highlighted the "uniqueness" of the mosque and its "spirit".
Amid chants of the Holy Koran, the glittering mosque by the Umshyrpi stream which is the first in the region to open its doors to women worshipers stood resplendent in all its glory.
