India is sending three senior officials as election observers to Bangladesh for the upcoming polls in that country, the Ministry of External Affairs said Thursday.
The officials are being sent following an invitation from the Election Commission of Bangladesh, MEA Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said.
The general elections will be held in Bangladesh on December 30.
Bangladesh has requested several other countries also to send observers to witness the elections
"We are sending three senior officials who have been designated by the Chief Election Commissioner," Kumar said during a media briefing.
The Indian officials will be in Bangladesh from December 28-31.
"As far as election is concerned, we do feel that this is an internal matter of Bangladesh. We respect the functioning of democracy in Bangladesh," Kumar said.
