The Indian team, comprising 12-time world champion Pankaj Advani and Aditya Mehta, today stormed into the quarterfinals of the Snooker World Cup here.

The Indian pair defeated Singapore 4-1 in its final round robin match to finish second in Group A, behind China.

The top two from each of the four groups qualify for the quarterfinals.

Advani and Mehta had narrowly missed out on toppling the defending champions, China, on the first day of the mega event. However, since losing that encounter 2-3, there has been no looking back.

India whitewashed Austria and Norway with identical scorelines of 5-0 and overcame a stiff challenge from Malta, winning the tie 3-2.

India now face Belgium in the knockout match.

In the previous edition of the tournament four years ago in Thailand, India failed to qualify for the knockout draw as they finished third in their group.
