India has launched two new initiatives to promote Indian culture and science in the UAE by organising cultural performances and lectures here on the country's achievements in the field of science.
'Indradhanush'- Colours of Indian culture and 'Manthan'- Indian Science Lecture Series are the initiatives.
Consulate General of India, Dubai has started organising cultural performances once a month under Colours of Indian culture. Performances include classical dance and music to dance-drama to cinematic songs are being held.

The first performance under this initiative was held on January 31 by Ustad Maqbool Khan and his son Zeeshan Khan who rendered compositions of Indian classical music. The second performance is scheduled for February 27 which is a dance- drama presentation called 'Bharteeyam', an ode to Mother India, the mission said in a statement.
Under the initiative 'Manthan', lectures on achievements of India in the field of science will be organised, it said.
The first lecture was held on January 17 by M Radhakrishna Pillai, Director of Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Biotechnology. The second lecture in the series will be held on February 27 by T Jayanthi from Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research.
According to the Indian Embassy in Abu Dhabi, Indian expatriate community is reportedly the largest ethnic community in the United Arab Emirates constituting roughly about 30 per cent of the country's population.
There are about 1.5 million Indian nationals living in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, according to the Consulate.
