India to chair working committee of Int'l Sugar Organisation

India has been named as the chair of Working Group Committee of International Sugar Organisation (ISO), recognising the country as a major and leading player in theworld sugar sector.

The 50th session of the council meeting of the International Sugar Organisation (ISO) yesterday decided with full consensus of all its member countries that India become the Chair of the Working Group Committee, a statement from the Indian High Commission in London said.

The group has the mandate to study, examine and recommend the new role to be played by ISO in the sugar economy of today and in future.

ISO has at present 87 countries as members and is in force in terms of the International Sugar Agreement, 1992.
