India to defend South Asian Basketball title at home

Defending champion India will host the South Asian Basketball Championship (SABA) here from July 3-5 with the tournament serving as a qualifying round for the FIBA Asian Championship.

Basketball Federation of India (BFI) has picked the Kanteerva Stadium in Bangalore as the venue for SABA.

The team for the competition will picked following a six day camp here for 24 probables, starting on June 15.

"Out of the 24 probables, Amjyot Singh Gill, Amritpal Singh and Satnam Singh Bhamara may not attend the National Coaching Camp since they have just started their professional careers abroad," said BFI in a statement.
 

"Amjyot Singh and Amritpal Singh have been invited to represent the Hyogo Impulse at the Japanese BJ Summer League 2015 whereas Satnam Singh has declared himself for the NBA draft and is currently working on pre-draft workouts with various NBA teams," it added.

India won the SABA title in Kathmandu last year and qualified for the FIBA Asia Cup in Wuhan, China.
