India to host agri wholesale market congress next year

The National Council of State Agricultural Marketing Boards (COSAMB) will host the World Union of Wholesale Markets congress in India next year.

Members from over 50 countries are expected to take part in the event.

The event, which is being held in the country for the first time, is being organised in association with H P State Agricultural Marketing Board (HPSAMB).

"COSAMB and HPSAMB will host the next World Congress jointly in India for the first time in October 2018, which will be attended by representatives from over 50 countries and around 100 market managing authorities," COSAMB Chairman Subhash Chand Manglate said in a statement.
 

The meet this year is slated to be held next month in Australia.

COSAMB, an autonomous body, works along with state agricultural marketing boards and coordinates activities among members. It also has the mandate of coordinating with international agencies and seeking technologies and systems for improving agricultural marketing in the country.

Manglate also announced the appointment of J S Yadav as the new Managing Director of COSAMB, which was necessitated by the sudden demise of the previous MD, S S Randhawa.

Various other decisions were also taken during the general body meeting, which was attended by 25 members from 12 states.

Manglate, also the chairman of HPSAMB, stressed on the issues of hill states in general and Himachal Pradesh in particular with specific reference to apple farmers.
