India to host Prosthetics & Orthotics meet for the first time

Today he came at a press conference with doctors to announce that India will host International Society for Prosthetics & Orthotics (ISPO) World Congress for the first time in four decades.

The conference would be held in Hyderabad from February 4 to February 7 and would focus on the recent developments in the fight against disablement.

Ashok said he is one of the best examples of how prosthetics and orthotics have helped in inclusion and empowerment of the disabled.

He was bedridden for almost a year due to an operation that went wrong but scaled Nepal's 21,247 feet high Mera peak in the Himalayan ranges last year. Now he is eyeing Mount Everest.

 

Dr BD Athani, Chair India Task Force, World Congress said he welcomes the various innovations focused at developing countries like India that shall be showcased at the World Congress.

"We need to educate the amputees that they should not lose hope because science and technology are at their service now, owing to which their return to normal life is not just possible but the time for it has also come down considerably," he said.
