India-UK JV to upgrade vocational training in Punjab

Punjab government will soon start a project to upgrade infrastructure and need-based vocational training in the Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) of the state under a India-UK joint venture.

Capacity building workshops will be conducted under this project in ITI Ranjit Avenue, Amritsar, Bathinda, Ludhiana, Patiala and Ropar to improve expertise of vocational trainers, Punjab's Technical Education Minister, Anil Joshi said here today.

Experts from both countries will work together to provide skilled labour to small and medium industrial units under the centre of excellence scheme, he said.

"Under this joint venture, experts from both countries can visit either country to get training in specialised fields," he said.
 

Joshi further said that officials of Technical Education department will try to replicate the good practices of UK in the ITIs of the state adding, this programme will go a long way in sharpening vocational and technical skills of students.
