India and the United States today renewed their commitment to work together in the healthcare sector for better addressing the health challenges faced by the people of the two countries.

On the concluding day of the second 'India-US Health Dialogue', experts deliberated on issues of bilateral importance, including communicable and non-communicable diseases, low-cost innovations, food and drug regulations, traditional medicine and access to medicines among others.

During the two-day event, the participants reaffirmed the commitment to strengthen scientific, regulatory and health cooperation between the two nations and the global community and exchange information on policies, regulations, research, technologies, programs, activities and practices.

"The final goal is to identify emerging areas of mutual interest and facilitate the development of new collaborations.

"We have reaffirmed our commitment to work together for better addressing the health challenges faced by our people in both countries, such as cancer, communicable and non- communicable diseases, traditional medicines, food and drug regulation and antimicrobial resistance among others," said health secretary C K Mishra.

"Working together, we can tackle problems relevant to both our nations, such as global health security, research on understudied diseases, and access to medicines," said Garrett Grigsby, Director of Global Affairs at the United States Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

In addition to the discussions at the Health Dialogue, the US delegation also visited several Indian institutes in New Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru to highlight collaborations to control and manage HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, antimicrobial resistance, cancer, acute encephalitis syndrome, mental health and traditional medicine.
