Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman P K Kurien recently met Vice-President of Vietnam's National Assembly Tong Thi Phong and discussed the possibility of further enhancing cooperation between the two nations.

Both leaders, who met at the sidelines of the 131st Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Session in Geneva on October 14, expressed satisfaction over the ongoing parliamentary cooperation and discussed about the possibility of enhancing it through regular interaction, including cooperation through the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) platform.

Tong also extended an invitation to Kurien and other members of the Indian Parliamentary delegation to participate in the 132nd Session of the IPU Assembly scheduled in March next year in Hanoi.

"The Deputy Chairman, Rajya Sabha also discussed about the ongoing bilateral relations covering cooperation in economic and commercial and cultural fields as well as people-to-people contacts.

"Both the leaders recounted that the bilateral relationship is strongly rooted in close contacts between the leaders of the two countries since the time of independence, and duly strengthened by regular high level exchanges," a statement issued by the Rajya Sabha said.
