West Bengal Governor K N Tripathi today mourned the death of former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, and said not only India but the world has lost one of the greatest politicians and diplomats.
He was incomparable, a loving leader and a true guide to the nation and party workers, he said in a statement.
"I am deeply grieved to learn that our beloved leader Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee is no more. Not only India, but the world has lost one of the greatest politician and diplomat. He was a symbol of unique political cooperation, which he enjoyed as three-time prime minister of this country.
"He has left a deep mark in the heart of the people of the country. Respected by the international community of leaders, Shri Vajpayee had unique quality of taking people with him. He was a nationalist in the true sense of the word. He never compromised with his principles and wanted India to be a strong and prosperous country," the Governor said.
Describing him as a multifaceted personality, Tripathi added, "I had the privileges of having his advice and guidance on a number of occasions. His demise is a personal loss to me. I pray his soul rests in peace.
