A 26-year-old aspiring Indian- American filmmaker has died over a week after he was hit by a car while riding a bike in his home town of Philadelphia.

Vijay Mohan was born in a suburb of Chicago, attended high school in India and studied at the Temple University, where he earned a degree in film and media arts.

Mohan sustained multiple fractures and head trauma after he was hit by a car shortly after midnight on May 10, police said.

The Philadelphia film and television community has mourned the death of Mohan.

"We will greatly miss his gentle, funny and creative spirit. He was truly committed to our work and demonstrated it daily through his interactions with PhillyCAM producers," said PhilyCAM, city's public-access television station.

"He was very welcoming and able to communicate technical things to people who didn't have much experience in a way that would make everyone feel comfortable," said Gretjen Clausing, executive director of Philly Community Access Media.

Mohan will also be remembered for his work as a student at Temple University, Scribe Video Center, BlackStar Film Festival and Philadelphia Asian Film Festival besides organising with local community organisations in his neighbourhood and throughout the city. He has touched the lives of many individuals and communities in Philadelphia and beyond, PhilyCam said.
