An Indian-American pharmacist's license has been suspended after he was convicted of healthcare fraud and ordered to pay about USD 2 million in penalty.
Hiren Dasharathbhai Patel, of Michigan, was convicted of one count of healthcare conspiracy and one count of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances in June this year.
Patel was sentenced to probation for six months, and ordered to pay USD 2,000,200 in restitution and fees.

The Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA) suspended Patel's license to practice as a pharmacist based on his felony convictions, the agency said.
Last month, LARA issued an order summarily suspending Patel's license in accordance with the Public Health Code.
