A 31-year-old Indian-American man has been shot dead in an apparent carjacking attempt, a day before his birthday in the US state of Texas.

Stanly Babu Kumbanattel was allegedly shot multiple times by two men at a southwest Houston apartment complex. Kumbanattel died of his injuries shortly thereafter.

Donald Henry Nealey and Marquis Davis, both 19, have been charged with capital murder in the death of Kumbanattel, Houston Chronicle reported yesterday.

Police said Kumbanattel was killed less than two hours before the robbery at the popular restaurant. Diners and workers were forced to the floor as two robbers collected cash and cellphones from them. No injuries were reported.
