The Indian-American community has welcomed the Punjab government's announcement of 10 per cent housing and plots quota for NRIs in the state.

"This is a good decision," said Satnam Singh Chahal of the North American Punjabi Association.

Chahal's reaction came after Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal today announced in Chandigarh that his "government has evolved a comprehensive plan to make NRIs equal partners in the industrial progress of the state and a 10 per cent quota of projects and plots is being reserved for Punjabi diaspora."

Chahal, however, rued that the state government has not been helpful in delivering justice to NRIs and their families in property disputes.

"As a result of which most of the Overseas Punjabi Community members are running from pillar to post to get justice," he said.

Chahal said the overseas Punjabi community is very much concerned for its security of lives and property in the state and the government should create safe and secure atmosphere for NRIs to attract investment in Punjab.
