Ramesh Shukla happened to be the man at the right place at the right time as he captured the UAE rulers jointly hoisting the flag after signing the union agreement in 1971 which brought the seven Emirates into a union.
The event took place at the Union House in Dubai and according to the Arabic language newspaper Emarat Al-Youm (UAE Today) his rare photograph has now been picked up as iconic theme for the event being commemorated as part of UAE National Day celebrations.
Shukla has been a UAE resident since 1956. He also dabbles with paintings and according to a news report, Dubai Municipality logo has been inspired by one of his paintings.
Dubai Metro Stations and the Union house are also adorned with Shukla's paintings.
Shukla arrived in the UAE from India at the age of 22 with a camera given to him as a gift by his father on his 15th birthday. His wife, who also happens to be an artist helped Shukla in his profession, taking photographs inside households.
