An Indian man has been allegedly attacked with a kirpan by a compatriot after an altercation at a gurdwara in New Zealand, according to a media report.
Police confirmed the scuffle at Otahuhu gurdwara in Auckland and said they had taken a man into custody after Friday's incident, the New Zealand Herald reported.
Vicky Singh who was praying at the gurdwara, said he heard two men shouting and rushed to the back of the building.

"Someone said the other man had used a knife to attack this man," he said.
A kirpan, a ceremonial sword or dagger carried by baptised Sikhs, is believed to have been used in the confrontation, the report said.
Another gurdwara member, who did not want to be named, said both men arrived from India four months ago, and the victim was a prayer leader.
