Popular television actor Gaurav Gera says Indian cartoon creators target only children and there are hardly any shows that are made for adults.

Gera, who has become an online sensation with his stint as 'Shopkeeper-Chutki', said, "Most cartoons in India are created exclusively for children, but outside they are also created for adults. That is why we have to depend on international shows for cartoons or comic series."

Talking about how most children's shows and cartoons like 'Shin Chan' and 'Tom and Jerry' among others, that are aired on Indian television are from international creators, the actor feels that local artists are yet to tap the sector that has, until now, remained unexplored.

"There is no dearth of talent in India. In fact, there are many Indians working with several international brands. I feel that Indian creators need to pay a little more attention to the huge market that the cartoon industry has to offer."

The actor was in town to participate in the recently concluded Delhi Comic Con where he was selling 'Shopkeer-Chutki' inspired merchandise.

"When Comic Con began in India, nobody was aware of it, but now it has become extremely popular. I first participated in it in Mumbai, but the enthusiasm in Delhi is exceptional and that is why I come here every time with my characters," he said.

The actor was also one of the participants in the dance reality show, 'Jhalak Dikhlaa Jaa' where he performed as 'chutki'.

When asked why he participated as the character and not his own self, he said, "I wanted the character of 'chutki' to reach out to the audience through different media. That was my main objective and I think I have been able to accomplish that. Although, personally, I like the character of 'shopkeeper' more," he said.

According to him, internet has become an easily accessible platform for all kinds of talent today.

"Earlier, people had to wait for opportunities to come their way. But, the Internet today has become a platform where all you need to do is project your talent," he said.
