An Indian educational fair has started here aiming to attract more students from Nepal to Indian colleges at a time when many Nepali students are seeking admission in foreign educational institutions.

At least 52 Indian universities and educational institutions attended the India Education and Career Fair 2014 which started here yesterday.

More than 20,000 Nepali students obtained permission from the Education Ministry in Nepal to pursue higher studies in various Indian academic institutions last year.

The number of students pursuing higher education in Indian educational institutions are likely to upsurge this year too, educational experts pointed out.

The frequent strikes launched by Maoist affiliated student organisations both in the government and privately run schools demanding reduction in the higher tuition fee are some of the reasons for students seeking admissions in Indian academic institutions, experts said.

India has been the first choice of Nepali students who aspire for higher studies in foreign countries for a long time. Indian institutions offer a hassle free entry to Nepali students and there is no need for visa for pursuing higher studies.

Geographical proximity and affordable tuition fees are the other major reasons for the Nepalese students to choose Indian academic institutions for higher education.
