Indian Ambassador to Philippines, Jaideep Mazumdar today called on Assam Governor Jagdish Mukhi and discussed wide ranging issues vital to boost bilateral relations with that country with special emphasis on Assam.
Mazumdar is in Assam to hold talks with the heads of the state government to chalk out a wide array of issues for India to take up with Philippines to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, an official release said.
He discussed with the governor Assam's immense potential in food processing and tourism and measures to take both the sectors across the border so that a collaborative approach can be adopted for the development of both sectors, it said.
Mazumdar, who hails from Assam, said that considering the similarity of climatic conditions of the state and Philippines, both can venture into agricultural tie-ups by sharing technical knowhow.
Both of them maintained that for the success of the 'Act East Policy', there should be constant interaction between the people of Assam and Philippines and discussed the possibilities of exchange programmes in the fields of education, culture, trade and business, the release said.
Mukhi also assured all help from the state government for a strong and sustained Assam-Philippines relations, the release added.
