The Indian film industry is growing by 12 per cent annually and would continue to grow at the same pace till 2020, a government official said here today.

"The Indian film industry currently growing at a pace of about 12 per cent... It is going to grow at the same rate till 2020," Information and Broadcasting (IB) ministry joint secretary Ravindra Singh said while addressing a seminar - Meghalaya as a filming destination - at the ongoing Indian Panorama Film Festival jointly organised by the ministry and the state government.

He said the prospect of growth of the film industry is something to be optimistic about given the fact that we make films in 24 languages and the trend to increase with the digitisation.

"Digitisation has made things easier wherein there is no more delay due to distance and other logistics. We can now release films in 2000 locations at a time," he said.

"Footfalls at cinema halls were also not affected badly with the coming of Internet age and revenue earned from theatrical screenings has gone up," Mr Singh said.

The industry that generated Rs 13,000 crore stands to gain from digitisation and with the Ministry facilitating in making the process easier.
