A 41-year-old Indian national has gone missing in Malaysia, prompting authorities to launch a search operation.

Singamuthu Chezhiyan, a restaurant accountant who is originally from India's Tamil Nadu state and living with his family in Penang state, is untraceable.

"Singamuthu had gone missing after failing to return home from work on May 26," said chief Inspector Mohd Asri.

"Singamuthu had been living in Malaysia in the past 15 years and he has all his legal documents and a valid work permit.

"We found Singamuthu's company car deserted in Parit Buntar in a good condition, but he is not traceable. "His family members also have tried contacting him," the New Straits Times quoted Mohd Asri as saying.
