Bangladeshi authorities have detained an Indian for allegedly carrying 65 gold bars weighing around eight kilogrammes at the international airport here.

Customs officials at Shahjalal International Airport challenged Dipak Kumar Acharya following his suspicious movement and found the gold bars and other valuables searching his hand bag, a customs official told The Daily Star today.

Acharya, 60, came to Dhaka from Hong Kong by a flight of Bangladesh Biman last night, the official said.

They also seized 11,225 memory cards and 11 iphones from his possession, the official said.

The market price of the gold bars is worth around 3.5 crore Bangladeshi takas while the cost of others items is 50 lakh Bangladeshi takas.
