An Indian woman, abandoned by her Bangladeshi husband, has given birth to a baby boy at a toilet of a railway police station here, media reports said today.

Roksana Akter, 30, and the newborn have been admitted to a medical college hospital here, where their condition was said to be stable, bdnews24 reported.

Kamalapur Railway Police Station officer Yasin Faruq said Roksana's husband Abdul worked as a furniture trader in India when he married her.

Abdul took Roksana to his sister's home in Narayananj over a month ago and then fled after stealing her passport some days ago, the police officer said.

She got on a train in Narayanganj and the ticket checker handed her to the police at Kamalapur around 11 PM on Monday as she was in an advanced stage of labour.

Efforts would be made to contact her relatives in India once she recovers, the police said.
