A Dubai court has upheld the six-month jail term awarded to a 37-year-old Indian man and ordered his deportation on charges of molesting a Sri Lankan housemaid.
The Court of Appeal confirmed the deportation order against the defendant.
According to prosecution records, the case dates back to February 1 when the Indian worker went to the villa where the maid worked, knocked on the door and when the maid opened it for him, he barged in, hugged and groped her, the Khaleej Times reported.
He has been convicted of charges of molestation and trespassing. The housemaid said in the prosecution investigation that she did not know the accused prior to the incident.
The accused chased and caught her and hugged her from behind and groped her.
The maid added that she could smell alcohol on the accused.
Another maid, also Sri Lankan, confirmed that the complainant rushed into her room as she was running away from the accused on that day.
The verdict can be appealed within 30 days at the Court of Cassation.
