A 25-year-old Indian taxi driver in Australia has pleaded guilty to assaulting a drunk woman who hired his cab in Adelaide in 2012.

Jagdeep Singh picked up the woman from a hotel at Glenelg in the early hours on a December night.

An Adelaide district court heard Singh had put his hand up the woman's dress and touched, then kissed her, ABC News reported today. Close to home, the woman crawled out of the taxi and vomited.

Singh had been due to go on trial but the prosecution dropped a charge of attempted rape and he pleaded guilty to two counts of indecent assault.

His lawyer said Singh should be spared jail because he already faces a likelihood of deportation to India.

The lawyer said the man already had been punished by losing his job and his chance to live and study in Australia.

Singh will be sentenced next month.
