A 30-year-old Indian who was found dead with his Indonesian girlfriend in a hotel room in Singapore may have killed his partner before commiting suicide, a court heard.

The plot was likely carried out by Chinnasamy Baskar who was described as Ruli Widyawati's possessive boyfriend. Both foreign nationals had met while working in Singapore, Investigating Officer Aliden Hamad told the court.

The incident occurred on February 1 when the manager of Hotel 81 at Geylang discovered the bodies. Widyawati, 28, was found motionless on the floor with a gaping wound on her neck, and Baskar was found hanging by a rope around his neck in the toilet, The Straits Times reported.

Investigations found that the two had been in a relationship for about two years, but that it had turned sour shortly before their deaths.

Widyawati had pleaded with Baskar's employer not to allow him to travel to Indonesia, saying he had threatened to kill her whole family.

An air ticket to Indonesia was found in Baskar's bag inside the bloody hotel room.

Baskar's boss also testified that he had explicitly said that if he found Widyawati to be unfaithful, he would kill her.

A handwritten note found inside Baskar's bag at the scene said: "I kill you. I know everything," and suggested that Ruli had been communicating with another man. "I tell u u talk Alibaba I cut u finger one by one (sic)," the note said.

The court heard that Chinnasamy had borrowed SGD1,000 from his supervisor and SGD200 from a colleague late last year to give to Widyawati, despite his colleague's advise not to do so.

Chinnasamy told his colleague he loved Widyawati and would do anything for her. But if he found out that she was cheating on him, he would kill her.

A hotel cleaner told the court she heard quarelling from the room of Chinnasamy and Ruli.

Three empty cans of beer were also found at the gory scene with blood splattered all over the room, testified investigating officer Aliden Hamad in the court.
