A visiting Indian Parliamentary delegation has expressed satisfaction over the economic progress made by Sri Lanka in the post-conflict phase, the government said today.
The Parliamentary delegation comprising Saugata Roy, Prakash Javedkar, Anurug Thakur, Sandeep Dixhit, Dhanajay Singh and Madhu Goud Yaskhi representing Bharathiya Janatha Party, Indian People's Congress, Bahujana Samaj Party and Indian National Congress met the Sri Lankan Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa yesterday, an Economic Development Ministry statement said.
"The delegation expressed satisfaction with the economic progress Sri Lanka has achieved so far," the statement said.
Their visit was organised by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), and was aimed at enhancing the relationship between the two countries.
The Indian MPs also visited Jaffna to look at the India-supported owner-driven housing initiative among other projects.
Jyoti Malhotra, convener of FICCI's Forum of Parliamentarians, who accompanied the delegation, said FICCI had been working to constitute a 'Track Two political dialogue' between Indian parliamentarians and their Sri Lankan counterparts for many months now, for greater political interaction and understanding.
The visit is part of a larger programme that seeks to institutionalise political partnerships.
