An Indian man, who broke a car's side rear view mirror in Bahrain's capital city of Manama hoping to get deported, has been awarded a jail term of two months.

The 33-year-old labourer wanted to leave Bahrain but did not want to pay for a ticket, so he broke a car's side mirror by kicking it in Manama, according Bahrain's Lower Criminal Court documents.

However, the judge convicted the labourer of damaging private property yesterday and jailed him for two months without deportation, the Gulf Daily News reported today.

The man told prosecutors he committed the crime because he wanted to return home, but did not want to purchase an airline ticket.

"I wanted to go back home. However, I did not know what to do and I kicked the car's window and smashed it to pieces so that I could be deported back to India," he said in his statement.

The Bahraini court ruled out deportation because the offence was minor.
