Indian Oil thrashed Indian Navy 5-1 while Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) and Western Railway drew 2-2 in the 10th All India Guru Tegh Bahadur Gold Cup Hockey Tournament, here today.
In the third match of the day, local outfit Western Railway and Tamil Nadu X1 played out a 2-2 draw, with all the goals coming in the second half of play that commenced at the MHA-Mahindra Stadium.
Indian Oil, comprising former India stars, dominated their Group B match with a three-goal lead in the first half against Navy.
The oilmen scored their first goal from a penalty corner in the 11th minute through Sunil Yadav. A field goal from Roshan Minz soon after made it 2-0.
Captain Deepak Thakur's double strike (31st and 39th minutes) put Indian Oil in the driver's seat at 4-0.
Bharat Singh scored the lone goal for Navy in the 51st minute to reduce the lead to 4-1 before international Prabhjot Singh rounded off the tally for IOL in the 57th minute.
In the other Group B game, CAG (Delhi) drew 2-2 against South Central Railway, Secunderabad.
CAG played well in the first half and went 2-0 up by the 21st minute but SCR pulled one back just before the half time and scored one more in the second half. All the four goals were scored from penalty corners.
CAG's goals were notched up by Azam Baig and O S Darshan while Innocent Kullu and Mayank James found the target for SCR.
Western took the lead in the beginning of the second half through a penalty corner from Amit Rohidass (37), which was neutralised by TN via a penalty corner goal by captain V Raja in Group A.
The second goal for Western was fired in by Jaykaran from the field, but their joy was short-lived as TN hit back to equalise for the second time through a field goal from their captain Raja.
