Sanjaya Malakar, the Indian origin singer who was a contestant on the sixth season of 'American Idol', was photographed performing at a New York subway station recently.

The photo showed the 23-year-old singer, alongwith a few other musicians, singing inside the First Avenue L station, reported In Touch Weekly.

"He was singing '(Sittin' on) the Dock of the Bay'," an eyewitness said.

While his crazy hairstyles and vocal skills got him the attention on the show, today he's still got folks doing "double takes", the eyewitness added.

"The guy's still a decent singer!" they said.

Malakar gained national attention on the 2007 series of 'Idol', crooned his way to seventh place with public votes.

After Idol, Malakar made many television guest appearances. He got to fifth place in season two of the reality television show 'I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here!'.
